Position Title: Senior Digital Transformation Engineer
Reports To: IS/IT Group Manager

 

Job Objectives

To lead and execute Qatar Aluminium’s enterprise-wide digital transformation strategy by defining the digital roadmap, driving innovation, and ensuring delivery of technology‑enabled improvements across operations, maintenance, HSSE, administration, and corporate functions. The role oversees program governance, stakeholder alignment, and adoption of Industry 4.0/5.0 solutions such as IoT, AI/ML, advanced analytics, automation, and digital twins. The position acts as a catalyst for cultural change, embedding digital ways of working to improve productivity, reliability, safety, and sustainability.

Key Accountabilities - 1

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures

  • Ensure compliance with relevant operational procedures and instructions. 
  • Maintain controlled, consistent execution of digital activities.

 

Departmental Reports

Prepare high‑quality, timely reports to support leadership oversight and decision‑making. 

 

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Uphold Qatalum’s HSE policies in all digital and operational initiatives. 
  • Ensure safe implementation of digital tools and technologies.

 

Qatarization

Support development and coaching of National employees.

 

Continuous Improvement

Recommend improvements aligned with global best practices and evolving standards.

Key Accountabilities - 2

Program Strategy & Roadmap

  • Develop, maintain, and communicate the enterprise digital transformation roadmap.
  • Conduct market scans, benchmarking, and technology evaluation.

 

Governance & Portfolio Management

  • Establish PMO governance, steering mechanisms, and decision‑gate processes.
  • Track KPIs (cost, schedule, benefits, risks) and report to senior leadership.
  • Promote data‑driven decision-making.

 

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with leaders across Operations, Maintenance, HSSE, IT/OT, and Administration.
  • Manage external vendors, partners, consultants, and integrators.

 

Delivery Oversight

  • Coordinate cross‑functional workstreams such as data platforms, digital twins, automation, analytics, and change management.
  • Manage escalations and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

 

Change & Adoption

  • Lead communication, training, and digital literacy programs.
  • Promote continuous learning through feedback loops and post‑implementation reviews.

 

Financial & Risk Management

  • Develop business cases, budgets, ROI analyses, and benefits realization plans.
  • Identify risks and mitigation plans; ensure adherence to corporate, data, and cybersecurity policies.

 

Digital Process Improvement

  • Analyse business processes and identify automation/digitization opportunities.
  • Redesign workflows to reduce manual work and improve efficiency.

 

Data Management & Analytics

  • Improve data availability, accuracy, and governance.
  • Lead dashboarding, reporting, and KPI digitization initiatives.

 

Digital Tools Implementation

  • Evaluate, select, and implement new digital solutions.
  • Oversee testing, user feedback, and continuous improvements.

 

User Training

  • Provide user onboarding and troubleshooting support.
  • Develop training materials, guidelines, and documentation.

 

Project Management

  • Lead digital projects from planning through execution and closure.
  • Manage risks, dependencies, and cross-functional coordination.

 

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Ensure digital solutions follow security and compliance standards.
  • Partner with IT Security to mitigate risks.

 

Innovation & Long-Term Strategy

  • Scan emerging technologies relevant to aluminium smelting and heavy industry.
  • Support executive leadership in long‑term planning and innovation initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field.
  • MBA or Masters degree preferred.

Minimum Experience Required

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in program/portfolio management. 
  • Minimum 5 years leading digital transformation in heavy industry (aluminium smelter experience preferred). 
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in OT/ICS operations and maintenance. 
  • Proven track record managing large scale technology programs. 
  • Professional certifications: PgMP, PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, or equivalent.

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to convert strategy into actionable plans. 
  • Technical Acumen: Knowledge of IoT, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), AI/ML, analytics tools (Python, R, Power BI), MES, PLC/SCADA.
  • Leadership: Strong stakeholder management, influencing, and cross‑functional coordination. 
  • Communication: Ability to communicate with executives, engineers, and frontline staff. 
  • Financial Competence: Skilled in business case development and benefits realization. 
  • Change Management: Experience driving adoption at scale.
